The Dolphin Doctor is a captivating account of the genesis of marine mammal medicine from renown veterinarian Dr. Sam Ridgway. In this memoir, he details his trials and tribulations as a young military veterinarian that was called in to assist with the Navy's latest project: housing and studying bottlenose dolphins. 

 

Dr. Ridgway's work has and continues to, revolutionize the field of marine mammal science. As a prospective member of this community, it was important that I reflect upon Dr. Ridgway's experience, as well as understand how this field developed, in order to deeply appreciate my own experience and career.
